Formed in 1924 by Harry Major Lowe and his fourteen year old son Hubert; hence the name H M Lowe & Son Ltd. The Company was incorporated in 1952. The site, originally a pig farm, was trebled in size in 1978 when Hubert's two sons , Douglas & David, bought the neighbouring back-to-back houses and built a new warehouse, shop and office block to augment the existing substantial timber mill and overhead storage.

The Company is now one of the few traditional Timber Merchants left in Birmingham.

H M Lowe stock high quality Scandinavian Joinery Redwood, sawn and planed, along with Swedish Kiln Dried Stress Graded CCA Treated carcassing in most sizes and lengths to suit most building specifications .

Lower quality Baltic timber is also stocked to enable packing, fencing and formwork contracts to be competitively quoted.

The well equipped Mill can carry out most tasks involved with the above stock and offers a very quick service to our maintenance customers who have come to expect a very speedy completion of orders.

The warehouse contains most timber-based sheet materials including Plywood of all qualities, MDF, Blockboard, Hardboard, Plasterboard, Chipboard, Door Blanks and Fireproof Materials.

A speedy cutting service is available through a modern Panel Saw situated in the warehouse close to all the stock.
Doors and frames, skirting, architrave, dado rail and most timber mouldings are stored on the premises to further enhance the service that H M Lowe offer.

Since 1978 the Company has diversified into many allied products that are sold over the counter of the extensive shop . Fixings, mastics and glues, roofing felt, paints and primers, intumescent products, door closers and locks & fittings have all added to our vast stock range.

H M Lowe are very proud of the Ironmongery Section which now provides most of the services that an Architectual Ironmongers offers including key cutting, master keying and a fine selection of Digital and high security mortice locks.
